Control project milestones and scope changes

A project plan is useful when it connects a deliverable to an owner, dependency and acceptance criterion. Dates alone cannot explain what is blocking progress.

Set up the record

Baseline the scope and milestones with the customer. For each milestone, record the deliverable and the evidence that will demonstrate completion. Assign an owner to every dependency or outstanding decision.

Use it in the workflow

Log requested changes before implementing them. Separate the reason for the change from its cost and schedule impact. Keep the approver’s decision and reference the relevant commercial agreement.

Review and maintain

Review the plan at an agreed rhythm and preserve meaningful revisions. This workbook does not calculate a critical path, allocate resources or replace your contract.

Apply the routine with your own records.

An agreed scope, milestones, responsible owners and an approval process. Start with a small working copy so the team can agree field meanings before adding its full record set.

Keep a blank master, nominate an owner and decide when the records will be reviewed. If the workflow needs automatic validation, shared permissions or integration with another system, treat that as a separate software requirement.

This guide supports the stated manual workflow. It is not a substitute for your organisation’s approved procedures or professional advice where required.
